Disorder of GI motility and FBD are common in India. Hence, there was a need for group of committed workers in this subspecialty of Gastroenterology in India. This need was felt for quite sometime.

The aims of IMFDA are: (a) to provide a standardized care to patients suffering from gastrointestinal motility and functional disorders in India, (b) to share knowledge about these diseases in India with doctors and other health care workers, (c) to increase awareness about these diseases in India with patients, public and policy maker, (d) to perform multicentric research on these diseases in India (e) to promote knowledge about gastrointestinal motility disorder and functional bowel diseases in India in all possible ways.

IMFDA aims to promote multicentric research activities on Functional Gastrointestinal diseases in India. Biennial Meetings will be organized regularly to provide adequate opportunities to young investigators to present there work and also learn from other experts. The first Biennial Meeting of IMFDA is scheduled on 6-7 August 2011, in Lucknow, India.
